The new Gimp is here!

The Open Source Image Editor Gimp - GNU Image Manipulation Program - has new features for the development version 2.9 already available, but the most welcome are:

• The developing version seems to be quite stable - after 2 days working with to edit and save our pictures - the Linux version at least.
• The files can be edited and exported to 8, 16 and 32 bits data files - this is awesome as the previous Gimp version only worked with 8 bit files!
• The tiff image format under this new version doesn't show anymore the bug which stripped all EXIF data from tif files.
• All the main plugin features - including GMIC, and plugins-registry - seems to work flawlessly.

This new development version installs "as a breeze" on recent Ubuntu Linux distros and forks as the one I'm using - Linux Mint.

So, why wait for the 2.10 stable version? If stability is your main concern, wait for stable. If you have just being waiting for the new features only available at the development version as the ones described above, go ahead and  give it a try.

As the B&W film negatives I actually scan are "tweaked" later on Gimp for internet/client purposes, all these later features are more then welcome...
